Seven of these miniature scud missile launchers were built over three months. Designed to fly apart in scale. One was packed with explosive and blown up as a test in a quarry. The others were safely exploded three at a time in the studio set.
Human Dynamo Workshop also supplied the fortress set.

This was a fantastic job from Columbia Films, a Rob Cohen directed
movie. We built six hero Russian scud missile launchers and one test
model. The scale was 1/5.6 scale making them 2.3 m long. The fortress
courtyard to blow them up in was 13 x 8 m. This was a very successful
project and Bennett Walsh the producer has offered to personally
recommend Human Dynamo if required.
The original brief was to
spend 2 days shooting the explosions, but on seeing the quality of the
models, 2 extra days were allocated for beauty shots to be cut into an
extra sequence in the movie. Human Dynamo produced and filmed the job
providing final footage to Columbia.
