frequently asked questions.
1
what does Human Dynamo do?
We are a creative production and fabrication workshop and studio. We design, prototype, engineer, build, install and maintain complex physical works, often at large scale, for artists, architects, councils, organisations, curators, filmmakers, and more.

Through production oversight, we bring together the right people, materials, and processes to turn ambitious ideas into buildable outcomes that stand the test of time.
2
what types of projects do you work on?
The work we do is diverse and often sits at the intersection of art, design and engineering.
We work across a wide range of projects, including:
-
Art, sculpture and architectural features
-
Large, complex props and builds for film, ads, activations and retail
-
Displays and installations for museums, exhibitions and immersive experiences
-
Product and prototyping
3
do you work with artists directly?
Yes, we're very used to collaborating with artists at all stages of a project. We aim to support the artistic vision, translating ideas into practical, durable, and well-resolved builds without compromising artistic intent.

Many projects come to us with an artist, architect, or designer already appointed. In these cases, we integrate into the existing team and work closely with all parties to ensure the vision is understood, respected, and delivered successfully.
4
how do you work with different stakeholders in a project?
A big part of our role is speaking the language of multiple disciplines: artists, engineers, architects, contractors, suppliers, commissioners and more.

We act as a bridge between creative and technical worlds, ensuring ideas are clearly communicated, constraints are understood, and decisions are aligned across the project. This collaborative approach helps reduce risk and improve outcomes.
5
what materials and techniques do you use?
Material choice is always guided by the project’s requirements for durability, finish, context, and intent. We work with a wide range of materials, including but not limited to timbers/wood, metals, fibreglass, composites and resins, foam, plastics, leather, paper and card, glass, paints and other finishes.

We use a huge range of fabrication techniques, including CNC routing and milling, moulding and casting, metal and timber work, and specialist finishing. This breadth allows us to produce everything from precise components to sculptural forms, tailored to the technical and material needs of each project.
6
can you help with early concepts and designs?
Definitely. We’re often involved early to help test ideas, resolve technical challenges, advise on materials, and identify opportunities or risks before fabrication begins. Early collaboration can make a significant difference to both creative outcomes and budgets.
7
what will it cost?
The cost of a project depends on a number of factors, including material selections, fabrication processes, the scale of the work, production timeline, and more.
Once a direction is agreed, we produce a conceptual design to clearly outline the proposed artwork. The project is fully costed at this stage and delivered at a fixed price. A commissioning fee is payable on delivery of the concept, with the remaining balance paid in instalments.
8
how do I start a project with Human Dynamo Workshop?
Tell us about your idea, project, or challenge.
Whether it’s fully formed or still evolving, we welcome an initial conversation to understand your goals, explore options, and discuss how we might work together. From there, we’ll help shape a clear, collaborative path forward.
