Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
For Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), Human Dynamo Workshop supplied an extensive range of props, set fixtures and detailing for the live-action studio scenes, directed by James Cameron and filmed in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.
Props, consoles and set detailing
Working closely with the art department and set decoration teams, we translated intricate concept designs into robust, screen-ready objects that feel at home in the world of Pandora. From consoles and hand props to set hardware and stunt-safe elements, Human Dynamo pieces appear in nearly every scene featuring human characters.
Our team combined digital fabrication with traditional making to deliver the project at scale. Hero items such as cuffs, bio scanners, fire extinguishers and throttles were created using 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, metal fabrication, moulding and casting, and soft stunt construction, all finished with precise paintwork and integrated LEDs where required. Larger installations – including multiple holo tables, custom consoles and table legs – were built from CNC-routed forms and fabricated assemblies, then surfaced, detailed and finished to withstand the demands of shooting a film.
Across the board, our goal was the same: to bring the film’s high-tech human environments into physical reality, with props and set pieces that could be handled, used and shot from any angle, while seamlessly supporting the visual language of Avatar: The Way of Water.
