Wellington Waterfront Safety & Improvements (2025)
Through close collaboration with designers, artists, engineers and council, we supported the delivery of elements that are both functional and culturally grounded.
Lighting pole wraps and seating
If you’ve wandered past Frank Kitts Park lately, you may have noticed upgrades along the seawall and new lighting poles — subtle but significant enhancements that improve safety, accessibility and the overall waterfront experience.
Human Dynamo Workshop collaborated with Waiwhenua Design, led by Len Hetet, alongside Wellington City Council, and wider project partners to deliver these waterfront improvements.
Wellington’s waterfront is where culture, history and nature converge. It functions as an open-air gallery, from landmark public artworks to carefully considered infrastructure that shapes how people move, gather and connect with the harbour. This project required a thoughtful balance of durability, coastal resilience and cultural integrity, ensuring the work enhances everyday usability while respecting the stories embedded in place.
